Smart systems are the future so get involved now! Sensor System Engineering is an exciting master's programme that teaches students to build and develop smart systems that are able to interact with their environment. Students will be able to move beyond simply generating data. They will actually be implementing intelligence at the point of data generation to enable smart interventions in response to changes in the environment. This master's programme will challenge you to always look beyond what is known to be possible.

You will work closely with fellow master students from all over the world, forming a tight, committed community. A dedicated staff of experienced lecturers and professionals in their field are ready to push you ahead: teaching you new skills and supporting and stimulating you to make the most of your time at our institute and acquiring the skills of a future engineer.

The programme has the following prerequisites with respect to the English level of students: By means of an internationally used test, the student has demonstrated the required command of the English language (a minimum score of two B2s and two C1s according to the Common European Framework) or comparable IELTS score of 6.5, with no subscores below 5.5, or an equivalent score on the TOEFL test. Students who have a qualification from the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Great Britain or Ireland are exempted from the language requirement.

Students that qualify for the Sensor System Engineering master's programme can either be admitted directly or will be required to do a special Minor Sensor System Engineering, bridging programme, before they can start the Master. Admission is based on several criteria.

Academic background
Direct admission to the Master SSE for students with:

  • a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from a university in the Netherlands or another European union member state.
  • a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from non-EU university of an equivalent educational programme with sufficient similar content (will be assessed based on the detailed grade list).

Admission through Minor Sensor System Engineering:
  • Students with Bachelor's degrees in non-Electrical and Electronic Engineering background can be accepted after successful completion of the Minor Sensor System Engineering of 30 ECTS.

The motivational selection criteria
  • Affinity to mathematics and computing is demonstrated in the transcript of the degree and/or by the CV and/or by a convincing motivation letter.
  • A minor/major in Electronics or Embedded Systems or knowledge of Digital Signal Processing will significantly contribute to the ease of study.
